BLOODLIGHTS
FRONTMANN CPT. POON ÜBER 'SHINE ON' VON JET

I usually don't like to throw around my opinion about other bands in public, but what the hell, exceptions can be made. Jet's debut album 'Get Born' was stuck in the cd player on Gluecifers tourbus for months, so why should I turn down the request of having me review their new record.
Jet from Melbourne are among the few rockers who didn't have to release four records, play 500 shows and take a lot of shit before they got a hit. I guess they had to take a lot of shit for having one though, as these guys went for the main course and sold impressive four million copies of their debut.
Their brand new album is called 'Shine On', and while 'Get Born' was the perfect combo of AC/DC, Stones and the Beatles, this time the guys decided to throw Angus over board in favour of Lennon and Jagger.
Their first single 'Put Your Money...' is a catchy and basic Rock'n'Roll tune, along with 'Rip It Up' and 'Stand Up', but it's a more mellow sound that represents the record in general. Their Beatles influences becomes obvious on 'Bring It On', 'All You Have To Do' and 'Shine On'. The titletrack is a fantastic ballad, and this where I find Jet's main quality. The essence of a beautiful melody, and the ability to be catchy without being too cheesy. If you prefer the Rock'n'Roll aspect of Jet I'd suggest you hold on to 'Get Born', but if you're already a fan and you're willing to let the songs grow on you, I know you're gonna find some golden moments on 'Shine On'.
